Canada Commonwealth Cup - Changes to the Scoring System for 2017

The following changes have been made to the scoring system for the 2017 Canada Commonwealth Cup. The intention is to create a more dynamic and exciting standings in the season long race:

1.  NUMBER OF RESULTS

  • An athlete or team’s best 5 results during the 2017 calendar year will be used to determine their score for the Canada Commonwealth Cup – this has been reduced from 6 in 2016.
  • The maximum number of Level A results each athlete/team is allowed has been reduced from 2 to 1.
  • The maximum number of Level B results each athlete/team is allowed has been reduced from 4 to 3.

2.  MULTIPLE TOP 8 RESULTS AT THE SAME COMPETITION

  • Where an athlete or team achieves more than one top 8 finish at the same competition, they will only be allowed to use one of those results towards their 2017 Commonwealth Cup point total. The result used will be their best result at that competition.
  • Athletes/teams will receive a bonus of 100 points for any and all competitions where more than one top 8 finish is achieved.
  • Athletes/teams can only receive one bonus per competition – regardless of how many additional top 8 finishes they achieve at that competition.
  • Bonus points will be added to the total an athlete or team has earned from their best 5 results during the year.

3.  WEIGHTING

The number of points given for each result has been adjusted by removing the additional weighting factor that was used in 2016.

As a result, the difference between the number of points awarded for a 1st place finish and the number of points awarded for a 2nd place finish has been reduced. Similarly, the point difference between each of the other top 8 placings has been reduced.

The updated 2017 points table is as follows:
